Mission and Purposes
CAP-21 is a regional not-for-profit organization, which provides a forum for community concerns, interests and aspirations of residents in the West Central Adirondacks
CAP-21 attempts to facilitate the discussion and debate of ideas and issues, seeks to find common ground among its constituents and to build positive relationships along the Rt. 28 corridor of the Central Adirondacks from Forestport through Long Lake .
Achievements
Regional Visions Report Annual Hanging Flower Basket Project in Stillwater, Raquette Lake and the Townships of Inlet, Long Lake, Forestport and Webb. Communities Master Planning Project (CMaPP) funded by a NYS Quality Communities Demonstration Award The TOBIE (Thendara, Old Forge, Big Moose Inlet and Eagle Bay) Pedestrian Bikepath grant College internship services in partnership with Colgate UniversityProjects originated through CAP-21 efforts:
Hemmer Cottage Preservation Effort of the TOW Historic Association The Economic Development Office of CAA The 2002 TOW Master Plan
Planning for the future while preserving and protecting the beauty and benefits of our heritage and our natural resources
Facilitating open communication and increased cooperation among diverse entities within the region
Ensuring the creation and implementation of comprehensive master plans for each of our constituent towns and for the region
Creating partnerships that maintain and enhance economic development, stability and growth
Encouraging cooperation among the constituent towns in terms of sharing human and material resource
Helping to leverage resources and maximize capacities of regional not-for-profits
Facilitating community enhancement projects
Facilitating community education on master planning issues
CAP-21 Strategic Goals
Adopted by the Board of Directors March 8, 2004
Goal #1:
Ensure consistent progress toward implementation of the town and regional master plans through an a-political consensus building process, by 2007.Goal #2:
Complete town and regional plans by the end of 2009.Goal #3:
Ensure greater participation at town, county, and regional meetings, in order to build stronger communities and regional interconnections, by the end of 2008.Goal #4:
Increase the understanding of the mission, impact, and value of CAP 21 within the population of each township, by the end of 2007.In order to ensure long range, consistent support and progress toward these goals, the Board of CAP-21 will:
Goal #5:
Create a permanent financial base and consistent cash flow, by the end of 2007.Goal #6:
Improve recruitment, compensation plan and job training for all staff by the end of 2005.
